Terms of Service
Effective October 10, 2026. These terms are an agreement between you and mjonesone, LLC ("we", "us") for the Caldera hub at caldera.social and related services ("the Service"). The open-source software itself is licensed separately under the licenses in its repository.
1. Using Caldera
You must be at least 13 (16 in the EU and UK) and able to form a binding agreement. You are responsible for your use of the Service and for keeping your identity key and recovery key private; anyone with your key can act as you.
2. Your content
You own what you publish. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display and deliver your content only as needed to operate the Service (for example, serving your public profile and delivering your shared notes). This license ends when you delete the content or your profile, except for copies already delivered to other people.
You are responsible for what you publish. Only publish content you have the right to share, and do not publish other people's private information without their consent.
3. Acceptable use
Do not use Caldera to:
- break the law, or infringe others' intellectual property or privacy;
- harass, threaten, impersonate or defraud anyone;
- send spam, malware, or content designed to deceive (including fake profiles or manipulating gravity, credits or leaderboards);
- attack, probe, overload or circumvent the security or rate limits of the Service;
- publish sexual content involving minors, or content that promotes violence or terrorism.
We may remove content, reclaim handles (including to resolve impersonation or trademark claims), and suspend profiles that violate these terms.
4. Help credits and gravity
Help credits and gravity are points inside Caldera. They have no cash value, are not money, securities or property, cannot be bought, sold or redeemed, and can only move through the help-exchange rules. We may adjust balances to correct errors or abuse, and may change or end the points system. Any future paid features will have their own terms.
5. Open source and self-hosting
The Caldera plugin, core library and protocol are open source; the reference hub is licensed under the AGPL-3.0. These terms cover only the Service we operate. Hubs run by others are their responsibility.
6. Availability and changes
The Service is provided free of charge and may change, be interrupted or be discontinued. We will give reasonable notice before discontinuing the hosted Service where we can. We may update these terms; continued use after changes take effect means you accept them.
7. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, or that content will be preserved. Keep your own backups; your vault is yours.
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MJONESONE, LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100).
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify mjonesone, LLC against claims arising from your content or your violation of these terms.
10. Ending
You can stop using Caldera and delete your profile at any time (Obsidian → Caldera: Delete my profile from the hub). We may suspend or end access for violations of these terms. Sections 2 (as to delivered copies), 4, 7, 8, 9 and 11 survive.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.
